How To Create Custom Stats
Custom Stats
In your Settings > Stats, you can start to create your own custom stats.
We divide them into Team and Athlete Stats.
We give you seven options for stat types: Operation, Formula, Fractional, Formatted String, Location Chart, Location Success Chart, and Static. We'll go into more detail on each of these below.
Stat Types:
OPERATION:
This is the most common stat you'll create, and the foundation for more advanced stat points you'll want to build. Quite simply, an Operation is a count or tally of how many times a tagged game event happens. You can use these to construct more complicated statistical algorithms later.
Name: Assign a name to your Custom Stat Sheet. This is the name that will show on your Stats forms.
Filter: Simply select a filter of what you want to create a stat for.
Formula (scroll down): If needed, you can use math to calculate a value associated with the data points you pulled up in your Filters. The 'Filter' will return a count or time span of selected game events, so you can use 'Formula' to give those Filter results a sum or value. An example is creating a stat for '3pt shots' / 'points scored' in Basketball: the Filter will return how many '3pt shots' there were, and you can use Formula to multiply that count by 3.
Operation/Cumulative/Format (scroll down): Use these settings to assure the stat results display the way you want them to.
Always be sure to save your work.
A Formula will use math to create a new stat using data from previously created stats. Select a stat (you can use the 'search' box to quickly find the stat you're looking for), then type the math symbol you'd like to apply. An example is creating a stat for '3pt shots' / 'points scored' in Basketball: the Filter will return how many '3pt shots' there were, and you can use Formula to multiply that count by 3.
Always be sure to save your work.
FRACTIONAL:
Use this stat for acquiring averages and percentage-type stats. This will assure the cumulatives will be calculated correctly.
Always be sure to save your work.
This is the tool you would use to easily display multiple related stats together, like made shots - attempted shots - shot %. You can use the 'search' box to quickly find any stat you're looking for. Use any characters between stats like dashes, slashes, etc.
Always be sure to save your work.
This is a graphical statistical display centered around the "Rink Location" chart, showing field/court/rink location-based information:
You would set up this type of chart as though you were using your video filters to pull up clips (for the 'First Period Shots' example above, you'd select 'Period' -> '1' and the 'Shot' filter), choosing the "Rink Location" chart:
Always be sure to save your work.
LOCATION SUCCESS CHART:
This is a graphical statistical display centered around the "Net Location" chart, showing shot placement / net location-based information:
You would set up this type of chart as though you were using your video filters to pull up clips (for the 'First Period Shots' example above, you'd select 'Period' -> '1' and the 'Shot' filter), choosing the "Net Location" chart:
Always be sure to save your work.
STATIC:
This is a stat built on information you input into it; it does not take any values from the tags assigned to your games. This stat-type can be used as a 'depository' for the data you may have about the game (for instance, if you had a record of the playing time one of your athletes spent on the court or field). The stat value should be inputted in the form of a decimal (so, using the playing time example, 18:30 should be inputted as 18.5).
Always be sure to save your work.
Displaying custom stats:
ONCE YOU SET UP YOUR CUSTOM STAT(S), you will need to create a Custom Stat Sheet in order for your newly-created stats to be incorporated into your Stat Log. Please see our help article on this topic here.(FIX LINK)
ADDING CUSTOM STATS TO YOUR SIMPLE FILTER:
You can turn any 'Operation'-type stat that you create (or have created in the past) into a simple filter in your video player. To do so, at the bottom of the data box of your custom stat, click in the 'Show in Simple Filter' checkbox (and always be sure to save your work).
