Pixellot S1 offers automated production of sports videos. Based on Pixellot's patented, fully automated end to end production workflow, Pixellot S1 generates and delivers TV-like footage without a person in the loop. The fully automated production system enables amateur clubs, schools, federations, media platforms and venues to generate live HD content at dramatically reduced costs, and then stream it to fans, players and coaches, live or on demand.
The Pixellot S1 camera head is weatherproof and suitable for installation at any sports arena, both indoor and outdoor. The system is easily installed by any experienced technician who has been trained in the installation process. Some minor infrastructure preparations may be required prior to the system installation. Once installed, the system is maintenance free and can be fully programmed and managed remotely.
This manual describes the procedures for installing the system
• Integrated Scoreboard Kit – a third party integration device (Spotzcast or Daktronics) receives data directly from the venue's scoreboard or scoreboard controller and relays it to the VPU.• OCR Scoreboard Kit – an HD video camera captures the scoreboard data and transmits it to the VPU for OCR and integration into the video stream.
The CHU and VPU each come packaged separately. The Audio Interface is packaged together with the VPU.
• Cameras – Four cameras, each of which captures wide angle video at up to 5 MP resolution.• Mics – two mics capture the ambient sound.• Mounting Rods – The CHU is mounted on a wall or pole by attaching the Mounting Rods to the Mounting Arm.• Cable Harness - The CHU is connected to the VPU by four video cables and an audio cable. The cables, together with a grounding wire come out of the bottom of the CHU in the Cable Harness.
This unit receives the analogue audio signal captured by the CHU mics and digitizes it. It then transmits the digitized audio to the VPU for integration into the video stream.
The following Installation Kits (sold separately) are used for the installation process, depending on your venue's requirements.
The following components are included in the Mount Kit, which is used for fixed installation of the S1 CHU.
The Surge Protector Kit protects the units from being damaged by electrical surges. This kit is required for outdoor installation and recommended for indoor installation. Each kit includes four UBIQUITI surge protectors, one for each of the video cables.
The following diagram shows the installation of the S1 using the Extended Range Kit.
Used for installations of the VPU at a location beyond 200 m (656' 2") cable distance from the CHU. For fiber installation, the Ethernet cables from the CHU and VPU connect to switches. The signal is sent between the switches over a duplex single mode fiber.
It is recommended to pass the cables through a conduit or protective tubing. For outdoor installation waterproof protective conduit or tubing is required.
For the initial site survey, you will need a tape measure and a ladder.
For the actual installation of the Pixellot system you will also need additional tools (not provided), see belowin the link:
The CHU must be positioned at (or near) the midline of the court/field at a distance of between 3 and 60 meters from the court/field with an unobstructed line of vision of the entire court/field. The CHU can be mounted on any stable surface such as a wall, ceiling or pole. If no suitable mounting surface is available then you will need to construct one, for example by installing a pole in the ground or dropping one down from the ceiling.
The following are essential requirements for a suitable location for the CHU:
The following are preferred characteristics for the ideal CHU location:
The S1 system comes packaged in two boxes. The tall thin box contains the VPU and the short box with straps contains the CHU. Additional components are also packed in these boxes.

After completing the installation, application will submit a comprehensive report to Pixellot and to additional email provided by you previously, documenting the precise configuration of your system setup. This report will enable support teams to help you with system configuration and troubleshooting.
During the installation procedure, the camera icon indicates an image or screenshot that must be captured for submission with the Installation Report. |
Take pictures of the stickers with the S/N and P/N on the boxes that the VPU and CHU came in. (Identical stickers also appear on the back of the VPU and on the bottom of the CHU). |
If any of the connections are not 1.0 Gbps, then check all of the cables and connections for that camera.
The bands provided are suitable for installation on a pole with a diameter from 7-13 cm (3-5"). For installation on a pole with a smaller or wider diameter you will need to obtain the appropriate metal bands. The metal bands can also be adjusted to fit onto a rectangular profile.
c. Repeat steps a and b for each Repeater Unit.
9. If you would like to pass the cable harness through the cavity in the mounting arm, then insert it into the opening in the bottom of the mounting arm and gently pull it through the gap in the base of the mounting arm.10. Position the CHU facing forward with the center hole of the outer casing aligned with the center hole of the mounting hub.
12. Pivot the CHU around the center bolt until the cameras are directed towards the playing field. (You will fine tune the tilt adjustment later.)13. Insert the 1/4” (smaller) bolt into whichever of the four holes in the outer casing enables the bolt to penetrate through the hub while maintaining the correct Tilt.
14. Pass the safety cable through the mounting bars and attach it to the loop on the mounting arm.
15. Attach the four video cables in the CHU harness to the surge protectors or female connectors on the CHU end of the cables that have been installed along the route to the VPU.16. Attach the audio cable to the female connector on CHU end of the cable that has been installed along the route to the Audio Interface (near the VPU).17. Attach the grounding wire (in the CHU harness) to an electrically grounded point (e.g. metal pole) near the CHU.
Once you have completed the CHU installation, capture a picture of the installed CHU showing that it is properly grounded. |
