VidSwap REPLAY App

VidSwap REPLAY App

VidSwap REPLAY is currently available only on iPad.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

1) You'll need AT LEAST one iPad to run VS REPLAY during a game, but you'll almost certainly want to use more.  The main "server" iPad should be up in the pressbox running the system, and every additional iPad can be on the sideline viewing replays.

2) We recommend using an iPad Pro (or one of the newest iPad Airs) for the main iPad running VS REPLAY in the pressbox. We repeat: we HIGHLY recommend using an iPad Pro for the BEST experience using VS Replay. Replay will need storage space to run efficiently, please do not buy an iPad with the smallest storage available. We recommend 256 gigs.

3) The main iPad SHOULD be plugged into the router; if we are running the iPad over Ethernet please turn the iPad's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth OFF. Otherwise, we will use Wi-Fi and make certain Bluetooth is turned off. You will have a poor experience if you don't plug in. If you were not provided an adaptor, you can grab these:  Lightning cable or USB C cable

4) Most older iPad Pros, Airs, or Minis should work fine for playback iPads (to use for viewing footage while on the field, bench, press box or elsewhere).  The older the iPad you're using, the greater the chance of a dropped signal because of their weaker wifi capabilities.  Those older devices may have a harder time connecting to your VS REPLAY network.

5) The VS REPLAY app works like a server, allowing your teams' multiple iPads to connect to your VS REPLAY network and play back multiple angles of video at any time during the game. This means your main recording iPad always needs to be on and recording (not asleep or locked) for any playback iPads to display video. (The main recording iPad DOES save the video in the app, so that main iPad can be used offline, anywhere, for playback.) Since the main iPad is a server it CANNOT fall "asleep" - to ensure this does not happen go to the iPad settings, scroll to Display and Brightness and see auto lock to "never".

Starting a New Game:

On the main iPad running VS REPLAY, here's how to start a new game:

1) Make sure your cameras and REPLAY hardware are all set up and powered on.  Here's how to set up the hardware(FIX LINK).  Make sure you're running the current version of the app.

2) When you first download VS REPLAY from an internet connection, login to your account. You will not need to login again as you won't have internet from the REPLAY network

3) Make sure your main recording iPad is plugged into the network with the provided cables, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned OFF. Then make sure all viewing iPads are connected to your VS REPLAY wifi network; the current selected network will be displayed in the bottom left corner of the screen.

4) Click 'New Game' in the middle of the dashboard.

5) You will then be promoted to name your event, enter the name then hit "create":

6) At the bottom of the screen, click 'Cameras' to assign your camera views.  We support up to 8 camera angles.

IP/OCR cams from VidSwap and any Show Cameras from Pixellot will show up automatically, please allow some time for these to load. You can also add in any HDMI cameras by tapping 'HDMI Cams' from the top right. To use the main iPad camera, select the 'iPad Cam' option on the top right.

Select the ".." in the top left of each camera view to assign the angle name. Only those cameras with an angle name will be recorded.

 7) After all cameras have been assigned click on the 'Record' tab at the bottom of the screen to switch to the RECORD view. Once we select 'start' you will see a red bar along the top of the screen to let you know we are recording.

 8) To ensure we do not stop the recording, we do recommend that you move to 'Review' along the bottom. As long as we see the red bar along the top we are still recording, even if we move back in time to review a play.

9) There are two places we can tag your video, think of the tags as a live bookmark where we can review the content at a later time. We have in-video tagging, and live tagging with Replay. If we want to watch both the recorded video and tag, in the 'Review' section we can select the shopping tag icon in the top right and move to the 'Tag' section.

The Events section, or the filter icon from the top right are what we can use to watch tagged events live in game.

We can also move to the 'Live Tag' tab along the bottom of the iPad. Using this section means we will watch the live content on the field, court, ice and not look at the video recording on the iPad. We will also select the tags we want, these tags will save much faster as this is meant for live speed as the game is played.

All tags will be available for in-game review, and will also upload into the VidSwap and Advantage platform after we upload.

10) When a game is done, click into the 'Record' tab along the bottom and stop the recording. We will then move to the 'Details' tab, then select 'End Game'. We will confirm this event has ended. There will then be the option to upload the video once we connect the iPad back to an internet connection. Make sure the uploading iPad does not fall asleep; if it does, you will need to start the upload over.

11) Your REPLAY files will be uploaded into the 'Replay' section of your VidSwap and your Advantage account. Once the game is uploaded click 'UPLOAD VIDEO' to create a new game and add the LIVE / REPLAY files just as you would for a normal upload.

Joining or Additional iPads

1) Again, please make sure all iPads are connected to the VS REPLAY wifi network.  You can check this in your iPad's 'SETTINGS'.

2) Open VS REPLAY app and click into JOIN GAME.

3) You will not need to worry about any camera settings, you will only be able to view recorded events from this iPad.

4) Once the video is paused you can double tap to enable pinch to Zoom. Double tap will get you out of this mode as well. While the video is paused you can also draw on the screen, these do not save and are meant for quick in game corrections.

5) Additional or joining iPads can also tag, please follow the same steps as above for tagging.
